While the planning process of a remodel is very exciting, the actual construction process often involves tearing out walls, flooring, entire kitchens or bathrooms and can often seem messy and disruptive to your everyday life. With careful planning, it is possible to survive renovations to your home! Below are a few tips that can help you anticipate some of the problems that can arise during a remodel project:

• If you are living at home during the remodel, rearrange rooms before work begins. For example, if you are doing a kitchen remodel, move your microwave, refrigerator and kitchen table to a place where they can still be used.
• Make sure to communicate with your contractor regarding waste collection and protection of those items that are staying put.
• Protect your personal items! Dust is inevitable when it comes to a remodel. Make sure you protect any electronic devices, nice furniture, or valuables.
• Communication is key! Make sure that you are in constant communication regarding your project. It is important for the contractor to advise you of next steps and timing.
